The Union territory of Pondicherry which consists of coastal regions Pondicherry, Mahe, Karaikal and Yanam are located in the south of India. Pondicherry tourism is the most popular of all tourist destinations in the South of India. Promenade, Paradise, Serenity and Auroville are the most popular beaches in Pondicherry. Promenade beach is the most popular beach and is walking distance away from the city. The beach houses landmarks such as the War Memorial, the Statue of Joan of Arc, the Heritage Town hall, the Statue of Mahatma Gandhi, Dupleix(Joseph François Dupleix) statue, the Old Light House and the Old Customs House.

Paradise beach is a mere eight kilometers from the town, along the Pondicherry-Cuddalore Highway. The beach is surrounded by a beautiful creek and is a boats ride away. Auroville beach is located off the East Coast Road. It is at a distance of twelve kilometers from the city and great for swimming because of the shallow waters and small waves. Serenity beach is a ten minute drive to the north of the town.

Pondicherry is famed for the spiritual town of Auroville meaning city of dawn and the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. The city is a symbol of Humanity and people from all counties, religions casts and creeds reside in perfect harmony. In the middle of the city there is a symbol of harmony and peace known as the Matrimandir.
The Sri Aurobindo Ashram was founded by Indian freedom fighter and spiritualist Sri Aurobindo Ghose. The ashram is well known all over the world for its spirituality and blend of yoga with modern science. It is located on Rue de la Marine and can be visited daily between 8 a.m to 6 p.m.

Pondicherry is a place of rich history and it is on display in the various museums. The Pondicherry museum houses sculptures and artifacts belonging to the Chola and Pallava dynasties. The Bharathidasan Museum displays the works of the famous poet and playwright Bharathidasan. Another famous poet, Subramanya Bharati has his works and poems on display in the Subramanya Bhararti Museum. Tourists can also visit the Children’s Museum and the Jawahar Toy Museum.
